Oh hello. I didn’t see you there! My name is Sarah, it’s so nice to e-meet you. If you’re anything like me you know the best paths in life are the ones that are a little bit crooked but bring you somewhere spectacular.

I got a taste of copywriting by secretly rewriting friends' resumes (and tinder profiles) for years. After living abroad for most of my ‘young’ adult life, I moved to Toronto to complete a post-graduate diploma in Public Relations and Communications. And like all the great communicators of my time, decided to go to Coachella instead of completing an unpaid internship at a fancy PR agency. This blatant disregard for traditional education led me to an office adjacent to a food and wine magazine, where I was offered an editorial position if I could “write the way I talked,” which happens to be my favourite writing style.

Then I very accidentally drove my snowmobile off a cliff, and while the resulting concussion didn’t take away my ability to write it sure as hell made it a lot harder. I still had a lot of ideas that I wanted to express, and since words were a challenge I started to express them visually through conceptual photography.

Now with my brain back to being fully-caffeinated, I’m able to lean into storytelling in a way that others don’t (or can’t). Synergy between words and imagery can be really powerful and neither should be overlooked when creating a campaign. That’s why I’ve been the voice of several brands, commissioned by numerous print publications, and consistently voted the most fun person at the party.

Some people say you can’t have it all, but those people don’t write their own copy. The beauty of being a multi-hyphenate creative is that the possibilities are limitless. If you’re an agency I have the technical skill and editorial background to collaborate seamlessly with your current team. For smaller brands I can execute your whole creative strategy, from captivating copy to vibrant visuals (and the occasional alliteration). And for print publications….call me.

Although I do like to think of myself as environmentally conscious, Yes And Studio doesn't have one style that is recycled over and over. In fact, every collaboration is an opportunity to explore a new visual identity, brand voice or content strategy. No cookie cutter solutions here, unless of course you’re launching a cookie cutter.

The first and hardest step in launching any business is saying Yes. Yes And Studio is inspired by the improvisational technique "Yes, and": when one actor makes a statement or suggestion, the other actor should accept it and build upon it, rather than rejecting it or denying it. This means that the actors are constantly building on each other's ideas, creating a collaborative and supportive environment where anything can happen.

This is not just a skill for comedians, but a creative philosophy. At its core, applying the tenets of "Yes, and" to business creates a safe space for ideas (no matter how absurd, bizarre or unrealistic) to flourish. While building concepts might be my bread and butter, helping businesses say yes is the cherry on top. And, that is a disgusting sandwich but I’m a photographer not a nutritionist.

Depends on how many coffees I’ve had today. At the time of writing I’ve had two double espressos and an oat milk latte. Whether you’re an art director looking for a photographer to make your private Pinterest board a reality, a new CPG company looking to hire a creative team of one to imagine the secret life of your product, or a print publication (call me), I always have time to hear about new ideas and collaborate with other dreamers.
